I hope this would help the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pachai.nakkeeran\/posts\/797055033659443\">authorities concerned<\/a> while redesigning their website.<\/p>\n<p>This review considers the following factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Government websites don&#8217;t get a design update often. So, any grand redesign effort should stay good enough for another 5 to 10 years.<\/li>\n<li>Government websites may not have a generous budget to hire world class web designers and\u00a0 might rely on in-house talent or designers from agencies like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tn.nic.in\/\">NIC<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With this in mind, I would request the following changes and features while doing a redesign.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>English and Tamil versions<\/strong> of the website should be separated to <strong>separate<\/strong> pages. Having both in the same page adds to the clutter and confused navigation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsive design<\/strong> &#8211; Site is almost unusable from any smart phone.\u00a0 Usage in tablet is somewhat OK. With the increased use of hand held devices, the redesign should cater to all screen sizes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Better inbuilt search<\/strong> will help. Or at least, each HTML page should have proper SEO title, description. A site search like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%E0%AE%B5%E0%AE%BE%E0%AE%B4%E0%AF%8D%E0%AE%B5%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%AF%E0%AE%B2%E0%AF%8D+%E0%AE%95%E0%AE%B3%E0%AE%9E%E0%AF%8D%E0%AE%9A%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%AF%E0%AE%AE%E0%AF%8D&amp;sitesearch=www.tamilvu.org&amp;gws_rd=ssl#q=%E0%AE%A4%E0%AE%AE%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%B4%E0%AF%8D+%E0%AE%B5%E0%AE%B3%E0%AE%B0%E0%AF%8D%E0%AE%9A%E0%AF%8D%E0%AE%9A%E0%AE%BF%E0%AE%95%E0%AF%8D+%E0%AE%95%E0%AE%B4%E0%AE%95%E0%AE%AE%E0%AF%8D+site:www.tamilvu.org\">this<\/a> using the Google Search provided, gives many unintelligible search results all titled \u0b85\u0b9f\u0bc1\u0ba4\u0bcd\u0ba4 \u0baa\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bae\u0bcd.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consistent look and feel<\/strong> &#8211; The site has different backgrounds, navigation for different pages. For example, check <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamilvu.org\/library\/lA412\/html\/lA412007.htm\">this<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamilvu.org\/library\/kalaikalangiyam\/lkk00\/html\/lkk00hom.htm\">this<\/a> with the <a href=\"http:\/\/tamilvu.org\/\">homepage<\/a>. The look and feel, navigation should be made consistent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Restructured Navigation<\/strong> &#8211; It is very hard to find what we need. The navigation is cluttered and follows no logic. Navigation should be restructured based on the <a href=\"http:\/\/tamilvu.org\/coresite\/html\/siteindex.htm\">sitemap<\/a> design.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most accessed features<\/strong> like <a href=\"http:\/\/tamilvu.org\/library\/libindex.htm\">Library<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/tamilvu.org\/library\/dicIndex.htm\">Dictionary<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/tamilvu.org\/tkbd\/index.htm\">Font download<\/a> should be showcased <strong>prominently.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>All <strong>text<\/strong> available in the site should be <strong>indexed by Google<\/strong>. This is a major change that will bring more visitors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Back and front navigation<\/strong> using browser buttons is not working well in iPad (iOS7)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Orphaned pages<\/strong> like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamilvu.org\/courses\/extras\/p2033\/html\/p2033551.htm\">this<\/a> should be linked to relevant pages. Universal navigation should be always available.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remove Flash<\/strong> and other such outdated technology and replace it with latest technologies (example: HTML5 video players).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Outsource<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/tamilvu.org\/coresite\/html\/cwcdsale.htm\">materials for sale<\/a> to professional e-commerce shops. Makes it easy for buyers, reduces work load for TVA and may get more sales too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you have any feedback? Please share your comments.
